2014 and 2015 New York Emmy awards!!!
Ok, I am twelve months overdue for the 2014 awards. So I’m including two years in one post.
In 2014 our team at Newsday was nominated for 10 and we took home 5, and this year we were nominated for 20 and we won a record amount of 7. So many talented folks from management, photo, multimedia, reporting and more contributed to this success.
In 2014 I was asked to help shoot a team project for the anniversary of John F Kennedy’s assassination, which won an Emmy in the historical and cultural category. I also completed a project about Eric Callender, who teaches children lessons about life goals during his reptile show. This piece, “Follow your Dreams,” also won.
I was encouraged to enter the photographer craft category again. I choose two pieces to enter, “Follow your Dreams” and “In Love with Football.” With huge support, I won in this category for the second year.
This year, our team had tremendous success winning seven New York Emmy awards in many different categories. Our large team project “Life After Football” won for documentary, and Jeffrey Basinger’s feature piece that I had the privilege to work on about an opening of the restaurant HUSH in Farmingdale also won.
Finally, “Vinny the Dentist” was entered for the craft category of photographer program and won for the third year in a row. I was up against amazing photographers from the New York market this year, and I am truly honored to be recognized along side each of them.
This year the New York Academy set up a live broadcast link for family and friends to watch while at home. After my speech, my phone buzzed, it was a text from my wife Anita. She, and my son Connor, were watching at home. “Yay Daddy,” it read. This message from my son was the best part of the night!
